Continuing Education

Continuing Education (CE)

As an affiliate of Georgia Realty Referrals you are not required to be a member of any local real estate board, nor the National Association of Realtors. However, you are required to meet the continuing education requirements of the GREC in order to maintain an active license.

Responsibility of the Licensee

It is the responsibility of the licensee to monitor and maintain the status of their real estate license.  It is very important to pay close attention to real estate commission license renewal deadlines and continuing education requirements.

We highly recommend that you regularly visit the Georgia Real Estate Commission’s (GREC) website.  The “Online Services” tab provided by the Commission allows you to check status of license and CE as well as many other services.  In order to access the online system, you will need to create a password when first using the system. Services available through the Online Services System include:

  • Renew your License
  • View License Status
  • View CE Credits & Courses for current renewal period
  • View Continuing Education Courses taken in the past
  • Print your License anytime – no waiting for one to be mailed!
  • Change Your Address

New Licensees – Extremely Important and Time Sensitive

From the GREC website: “O.C.G.A. Section 43-40-8(d) requires that each salesperson must furnish to the Commission within one year of the issuance of an original salesperson's license evidence of satisfactory completion of a post-license course of study of at least 25 instructional hours (other than the Salespersons Prelicense Course or Brokers Prelicense Course) approved by the Commission.” Failure to comply will result in revocation of real estate license whereas the remedy is to retake pre license course and will also require the re-taking and passing of school and state tests prior to conducting licensee activities.

Renewing Your License with GREC

From the GREC website: “All individuals who hold an active real estate license and whose license number is above 100,000 are required to complete 36 hours of Commission approved continuing education during each four (4) year renewal period, including 3 hours on the topic of License Law. If your license number is less than 100,000 you are not required to complete continuing education for renewal.” To renew your license go to the GREC website and under the Licensed Professionals tab, click on the Renewing A License drop down

Real Estate Schools

There are a large number of real estate schools who offer CE courses. Depending on your learning style, you may choose to take them in a classroom or online.

GREC has an approved school list, so be sure that you take classes from one of the schools found here: Approved Real Estate Schools.
